March 1, 2014
Dear Parents,
Our Valentine’s Day party was wonderful, filled with fun and love. The children had such fun playing. It was great to see all of the children recognize their name on their mailbox and read their Valentine’s mail and eating goodies. The children especially loved making Valentine projects and had fun learning about our friend the “groundhog”. The children learned about dental health too. The dentist will be visiting with us this month March 10th @ 10am due to all of the snow storms last month. We learned what good foods to eat and the sweets they should not be eating too often. The children made teeth and a toothbrush to review at circle time how important and fun it is to “brush, brush, brush, your teeth”. They will also be taking home a goodie bag when the dentist visits.
This month the children will be focusing on Community Helpers, St. Patrick’s Day, Poison Prevention & Safety, Spring, & Forest Animals.
Our Community Helper unit will be exciting. The children are excited to make police people, fire people, etc. projects and are excited to have a couple of community helpers visit with us this month. We will be learning about their different jobs, uniforms, transportation, and how they help our community.
St. Patrick’s Day is on the way and soon our classroom will be filled with green! The children will be decorating the classroom with pots o’ gold, rainbows, shamrocks, and lucky leprechauns. They will be learning who St. Patrick was and why we celebrate this day. The class will be playing a matching number game with a pot-of-gold. We are practicing patterns with shamrocks. Our class will be celebrating on Mon., March 17th. Please dress your child in green. Miss Dawn will be providing the classes with green bagels and juice. The children will be trying to catch a leprechaun (on the playground weather permitting) and looking for four leaf clovers.
For our Forest Animals unit we will be taking a trip through the forest. We will see bears, chipmunks, trees, skunks, etc. The children will have fun making masks and acting out the animals and reading “The Great Kapok Tree”. They will be learning about the different levels in a rain forest and which animals live there.
Our number & alphabet book is progressing along wonderfully. The Nursery and Pre-K classes are continuing practicing numbers 14 – 16 & letters T-V. They are learning patterns, more or less, practicing with cutting and fine motor skills. Please continue to practice these skills at home. (letter recognition, name recognition, shapes and fine motor skills). The children love to come up during circle time to write their name and letters.
The children are also starting to prepare for our “end of the year “ concert in June. The concert date will be given out in next month’s newsletter. If you could please bring $15.00 cash in an envelope per child to help cover the cost of the shirts and costumes for graduation as soon as possible. School pictures will be taken on April 16th at 9:00 am.
If anyone would like to donate tissues, we have been going through so many boxes this winter season. We appreciate it!
