NEWSLETTER “Melville Location” August 2013

August 1, 2013

Dear Parents,

The children are having a wonderful time this summer. They are enjoying playing water games and love splashing around in the sprinkler.PastedGraphic-1In arts & crafts class the children are making summer fun projects. They have made beach collages, classifying and sorting shells and made awesome stepping stones. We used sand shells, glitter and so much more to create beautiful art work. We have been singing beach songs and songs about summer!

PastedGraphic-2This month the children will have many adventurous activities to look forward to. They will be having a blast with our friend Toby from Party Kingdom. They will be having fun bowling and playing all sorts of sport games, balloon and ball activities and they love to go down the water slide.

The children loved the Seashore Safari, they brought the beach to our classroom! This hands-on presentation introduced your children to local marine life – sea stars, shellfish, hermit crabs, snails, and… the infamous horseshoe crab!

Hiccups the clown was just here. We had lots of fun with her too…with her cool magic tricks, balloons animals, and tattoos!

The children are enjoying the ice cream parties, going on treasure hunts, dressing in their p.j.‘s, having show and tell and making a lemonade stand, etc. We are also still reviewing our letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and writing too.

We made tye dye shirts that came out great. We learned about underwater animals and insects. The children learned fun facts too. They know a ladybug has sticky feet to climb on a leaf and that bumble bees don’t have ears.PastedGraphic-3

We would like to welcome our 2 new hamster friends that were donated to the Huntington School! Their names are Buttercup and Brownie! The children love to watch them! We are posting a sign up sheet for any families that would like to take care of them on weekends. We will be learning about hamsters and how they live and what they eat!

In order to have all of these fun events, I need EVERYONE to please pay the $50.00 monthly camp fee. If you have not done so already please pay as soon as possible. This fee will help with the expenses for all of the extra special activities and entertainment the children so truly enjoy.

PastedGraphic-4Just a reminder, the monthly tuition is due the 1st of the month but no later than the 10th. As of September 1st, if tuition is paid after the 10th, a $35.00 late fee will be added to your bill unless previous arrangements have been made. Also we are updating the childrens medical forms. If you were asked to update one for your child, please do so asap!

Please remember that the newsletters, camp calendar, closings and other important information is on our website so check it out often at www.missdawns.com.

For any newcomers, please bring in a bathing suit, a towel, suntan lotion, water shoes and a summer change of clothes; shorts, tee-shirt, socks, underwear (if needed) for your child.

Please send a note in to school when your child will be absent if you know in advance, otherwise please call us in the morning to notify us of their absence.

We are all having a great summer! For the children who are going to Kindergarten this Sept. we wish you the very best and will miss you dearly! Don’t forget to come back and visit us! Enjoy the rest of your summer! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
