Happy October! The children had so much fun making new friends, seeing old ones and working in their classrooms. Last month the children focused on getting acquainted with each other and learned all about Fall Fruits and Vegetables, Family/Friends, and All About Me.
This month we will learn about, Columbus Day, Halloween, Fall, and Fire Prevention and Safety. The children will be discussing which fruits and vegetables grow in the Fall.
The Nursery and Preschool Classes will be working on poems, Fall themed artwork, new songs, writing skills with “Handwriting Without Tears”, learning how to write and spell their name, letters, numbers and shapes. We will be working with the letters Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh, and numbers 5 – 10, colors, patterns, months, seasons. The children also enjoy doing music, movement and exercise everyday. They are really doing well and love to do their projects too! We will also be making applesauce, doing an apple graph and reading apple stories! Starting this month we will be sending a folder home with work to be done and any other important information. Please check their folders every night.
Everyday at circle time the Toddler Class will continue name Recognition, Shapes, Numbers, Colors and Alphabet Recognition. The children also enjoy doing music, movement and exercise everyday. They are really doing well and love to do their projects too! **TODDLERS will be picked up at WHITE DOOR (Toddler Class ONLY) This avoids traffic in the hall – Thank you!**
In our Columbus Day Unit, we will discuss who Columbus was and how he discovered America. We will make many fun projects and decorate our classroom with our works of art!
For our Halloween Unit, we will be seeing what a pumpkin looks like on the inside and counting pumpkins seeds. We will discuss how much fun it is to dress up for Halloween and the children will make many projects to decorate our class.
In our Fall Unit, we will discuss what we do in the Fall, how the environment changes and why the leaves change colors and fall off the trees. We will also discuss how our weather gets cooler at this time of year. We will go outside to gather leaves and examine their new colors.
For our Fire Prevention and Safety Unit, we will discuss how to prevent fires and to always have an escape route and a meeting place. We will also discuss the important jobs of the Firefighters. We will have a special guest Firefighter come visit us to talk to us about fire safety and check out their cool fire truck.
October is “Fire Prevention” month. Please take the time to be safe and remember to change the batteries in all of your smoke and CO detectors or replace any older or questionable detectors before months end.
Our “Parent/Teacher Conferences” will be in mid November this year. It is a great way for you to talk with your child’s teacher and see what they have been working on.
We will be celebrating Fall with a Halloween Party on Monday, October 31th!! Please bring your child’s costume (nothing scary) in a separate bag with your child’s name on it, so we can change them for the party. Please do not send any masks or weapons to school. We are all looking forward to a great time! All are welcome! Please look for the sign-up sheet for snacks for our party. We encourage healthy snacks. Please be creative with the healthy snacks, Thank you! The Great Pumpkin will also be leaving a surprise for all of the children on the playground!!
The children will be making fun and spooky projects for Halloween. Please be sure to look around the classroom for your child’s art projects as you come in.
We now have Quick Pay – The new and easy way to pay your child’s tuition! This is available through an email invoice which will be sent to you monthly. The directions are on our website for online and automatic payments, please refer to the e-flier for a direct link and instructions. If you are interested in Direct Deposit from your bank it is now available, please contact Dawn for further information.
Please don’t forget, each month tuition is the full tuition price and due on the 1st, no later than the 10th. A late fee of $35 will be charged for any payments made after the 10th of the month and the provided Credit Card will be charged on the 11th of the month with a 3% processing fee unless other arrangements have been made between the parent and provider in writing.
Please be sure to watch or check online Channel 12 News or call the schools voicemail, and we now have an automated phone message for any days we will be closed or for important information.
Reminders:
- We will be having our annual Halloween Party on Monday, October 31st!!
- Please call if your child will be absent as soon as possible. Please pick your children up on time. Overtime pay will be $1.00 a minute for each minute after 6:00 pm. If your child will be absent or if you will be late picking up, please advise the staff as soon as possible – thank you.
- Tuition payments are due on the first and no later than the 10th of the month unless otherwise arranged. Full Tuition price is due each month, there is no price adjustment when your child is absent, school closings or vacations.
- Please send in only breakfast, 2 healthy snacks (morning snack and afternoon snack) and lunch as per the OCFS Meal and Snack Regulations.
- Breakfast is served until 9:15am. If you arrive after this time please ensure your child has been fed breakfast at home.
- Please remember our Health Care Policy: Children MUST be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please remember to bring a doctors note to school if you brought your child to the doctor.
If anyone would like to donate wipes and/or tissues, we have been going through so many boxes. We appreciate it!
The cooler weather is here!! The children will be going outside twice a day as weather permits. Please dress your child appropriately and label ALL items (with child’s first and last name) that are brought to the school and also bring in an extra change of clothes too. To ensure safety, please have your child wear sneakers everyday, no open shoes, flip flops, or crocs as they are not safe for the playground. Please bring in wipes and a change of weather appropriate clothes; pants, shirts, socks, and underwear (if needed), shoes (no laces – velcro only), jacket, hat and gloves for your child.
Please remember to return sippy cups, bedding and blankets on Monday’s after bringing them home to be washed. **For the safety of the children please DO NOT send in GLASS containers as they break**
We please ask that all children leave their toys and jewelry home as we encourage sharing of the schools toys. This will ensure their safety and we do not want the children to be upset if an item may get lost or broken.
