December 1, 2014
Dear Parents,
It’s hard to believe the holidays are here! Our Thanksgiving Celebration was a huge success. The children had a wonderful feast with lots of goodies. The children learned all about Native Americans and Pilgrims and that they sailed to a new land on the Mayflower. We made many fun crafts and sung many songs. The teachers served the food to the children and after played several games. We hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful too!
For the month of December, we will be learning about Winter, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and New Years. Our classroom will be decorated with the projects the children are making. The classroom will look like a “winter wonderland” after we are through with it.
The Nursery and Preschool Classes will be working on poems, Holiday themed artwork, new songs, writing skills with “Handwriting Without Tears”, learning how to write and spell their name, letters, numbers and shapes. We will be working on the letters Aa-Zz, and numbers 1-10. The children also enjoy doing music, movement and exercise everyday. They are really doing well and love to do their projects too! The children will learn how people celebrate holidays all over the world. We will be reading books and learning holiday songs. We will be focusing on colors red, green, blue, black, white, pink, purple, silver and gold this month. We are continuing to work in our journals. The children are illustrating pictures and telling stories about different topics. Please check their folders for work and please review every night.
Everyday at circle time the Toddler Class will continue name Recognition, Shapes, Numbers, Colors and Alphabet Recognition. The children are learning new words during our circle time, such as Christmas, Kwanza, Hannukah, New Year, Winter and many more. The children also enjoy doing music, movement and exercise everyday. They are really doing well and love to do their projects too!
Our “Holiday Party” will be on Tuesday, December 23rd @ 10am. All are welcome! A sign-up sheet for goodies will be posted up if you would like to bring something for the party. Our special holiday visitor will be appearing at the party. He will be bringing presents for all of the children.
We are asking each parent to bring in a wrapped present for their child/children with their child’s name on it no later than December 12th. The gift should only cost around $10.00.
As part of our focus on the holidays, our class is collecting nonperishable food and/or a toy to donate to fill a giving basket. The basket of food/toys will be donated to a family in need in time for the holidays. Your contribution in this effort will be greatly appreciated. If you can, please send a nonperishable food item/toy in as soon as you can or no later than Dec. 15th.
For the parents that have requested a staff list for the holidays, here it is: Miss Naheed, Miss Susie, Miss Louiza, Miss Cynthia, Miss Alison and Miss Janet. We would also like to welcome our new staff: Miss Jessica, Miss Stephanie, Miss Azza and Miss Angy to the Miss Dawn’s Family!
