April 1, 2014
Dear Parents,
St. Patrick’s Day was great fun! The classroom was filled with green! The children had fun decorating the classroom with pots o’ gold, rainbows, shamrocks, and lucky leprechauns. We also enjoyed eating green bagels and finding gold left by our friend Mr. Leprechaun and they also loved singing songs about the leprechaun too. We learned about forest animals such as, the owl, hedgehog, snake, and bear and read stories and learned about what they like to eat.
We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to Nurse Peggy for coming in to teach the children about what a nurse does for community helpers month. She was wonderful! The children loved and had great fun using the stethoscope to hear their heartbeat, listening to stories and making a nurse bag with bandaid stickers and a big red cross. She even reviewed the proper way to wash your hands!
Our focus for the month of April will be on Farm Animals, Spring, 5 senses, and Planting. We will learn how important it is for our earth to have rain so everything in nature can grow. The class will also be reading about and using a Lorax felt board to learn about Earth day and pollution. We will also be having the Girls Scouts program visit us on Tuesday, April 22th. They will teach the children what it means to “Go Green“. They will be discussing different ways you can protect the earth, conserve resources and look towards a greener tomorrow! The activities will include interactive discussion, story and a game.
Our Spring party will be held on Monday, April 14th. The children will enjoy a special egg hunt and goodies brought in! Please sign-up to bring something in (if you sign up for cupcakes, please bring in mini cupcakes or munchkins it is much easier for children to handle).
Everyday at circle time the toddlers review numbers, letters, colors and our daily songs. The children are really doing well and they love to make projects and participate in music, movement and exercise everyday. TODDLER class please bring a family photo ASAP for our graduation project.
The Nursery & Pre-K classes are learning numbers 11 – 15 & letters Rr-Vv. Please continue to practice them at home. They are learning patterns, and more or less. The Pre-K children are also starting a unit on telling time and counting by 2’s. The children love to come up during circle time to write their name and letters. Their number & alphabet writing is progressing along wonderfully and they are practicing reciting the Pledge of Allegiance each day. Please bring in an empty and clean 2 liter soda bottle for project.
For our science project this month, the class will be making a garden and planting seeds. They will be learning about the plant life cycle. The children will be practicing using their small motor skills as well as coordination skills by helping the teachers scoop the dirt into their pots to make a plant. They will be fascinated to see the plants growing in a few weeks. It’s a wonderful experience for them to see that the seeds they have planted turn into plants with the proper care. It will be fun to graph the plants as they grow to see the different heights they will reach.
School pictures will be taken on Tues, April 15th at 10:30 am. Everyone is welcome to take photos on that day even if it is not your scheduled day.
We are also practicing for our “End of the Year” concert/graduation. If you could please bring $15.00 cash in an envelope per child to help cover the cost of the shirts and costumes for graduation as soon as possible. Our graduation will be held on Thursday, June 5th at 10:00 a.m.
