Dear Parents,
This past month we have been singing January winter songs, such as the Penguin Song, and 5 Little Snowmen, we learned about Martin Luther King, read stories and talked about PEACE and what it means. The children are practicing being peaceful and using kind words when speaking to their friends.
This month we will be learning about Dinosaurs and Forest Animals, this will be very exciting. We will be learning about the beginning of time by studying dinosaurs. The children will have fun pretending to be different dinosaurs.
In the classroom, the children will create different kinds of forest animals and have fun acting out the different forest animals while we read the books at circle time. The children will learn about bears, squirrels, turtles, etc. and will be fascinated to learn that some animals go to sleep in caves and stay there until Spring. They will also learn that squirrels and chipmunks collect food in the fall so it will last them all winter.
For our science experiment the children will learn that ice turns into water. The class will learn and watch how ice melts into water when brought into a warmer climate.
This month we will learn about Groundhog Day, will he see his shadow? We will also be focusing on Dental Health/Personal Hygiene, Valentine’s Day, & President’s Day. We will have the children locate their teeth, identify a toothbrush and even pretend to brush their teeth. The dentist will be visiting us on Feb. 5th. She will give all of the children a goodie bag to take home too! The children will be reinforced that it is important to brush their teeth everyday and what good foods to eat.
On Friday, February 14th we are having our Valentine’s Day party (be sure to send your child dressed in Red!). We will have a sign up sheet if you would like to bring in a special treat. The class is decorating hearts and learning about the heart shape. They also will discuss the nice things to do for someone you love. You may send in Valentine’s but please DO NOT put names on them, it is easier to distribute. Please ask your child’s teacher for how many children are in their classroom.
For President’s Day the children will be learning about George Washington, Abe Lincoln and making an American flag.
