January 1, 2014
Dear Parents,
We all look forward to a happy, healthy New Year and all of the new, fun exciting things planned this year at Miss Dawn’s.
Our holiday party was great fun! The children had a wonderful experience with Santa visiting. He came to visit us to bring presents and have fun! The children loved opening their presents and showing their friends what Santa had brought for them. Thank you Santa, you were GREAT!! The children loved making holiday projects and noise makers for the New Year.
This upcoming month we will be focusing on: Winter, Martin Luther King’s Day, Dinosaurs/Dragons and Healthy Breakfast Foods. We are observing the weather outside and how the temperature has been changing. We will be focusing on winter weather and the fun things to do during this season, such as, play in the snow, make snowmen, or snow angels, etc. We are also discussing how we dress in the winter. Our classroom will be turned into a winter wonderland, filled with fabulous winter decorations such as, snowflakes, penguins, etc. that the children have made and are making. For Martin Luther King Jr. Day the class will be reading stories and doing projects learning about his accomplishments. We will focus on how Martin Luther King Jr. Wanted the world to have peace and harmony.
The class continues learning how to take turns, share, and be courteous to one another. As the cold months continue, we will be looking forward to starting our unit on Dinosaurs and Dragons. The new words we are learning are: prehistoric, reptiles, etc. We are also learning that there were two types of dinosaurs: plant and meat eating. In our “Healthy food” unit the class will discuss what a good breakfast is. We will talk about the importance of starting off the day with a healthy breakfast and the good snacks we should eat throughout the day. The Toddler class enjoys working daily on their basic letters, name recognition, numbers, colors, and shapes. They are practicing writing their first names, the alphabet and number puzzles as well. They continue to learn how to take turns, share, and be courteous to one another. The Nursery and Pre-K class enjoys working daily on their letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. They are also learning them in Spanish. We are up to the letters “J, K and L” and numbers 5 – 10. They are also improving nicely on writing and spelling their names and learning their addresses.
